Basic Description

Description of the Ship:

Construction Details

First Commission: 412.05.05 (5th of May, 2412)
History of the Class:

The Hermes Class Scout vessel was designed to be the new eyes and ears of the Terran Democratic Republic. Faster and more durable than its predecessor Raptor class, the ship can cover long distances quickly and effectively to scout out new enemy ship movements.

The Hermes class ship is not an explorer vessel; it was designed for a war scenario so can not remain away from a base for too long. It provides invaluable information to the military tacticians and to other vessels about possible dangers and ship movements.

Because of their speed, Hermes class ships also make very good couriers. Sometimes known as "Vortex Runners," in cases of needing information passed secretly, Hermes class scout ships are dispatched with copies of the communication to ensure that it is not intercepted. The downside of the Hermes class ship is that it is very lightly armed and poorly armoured.

Main Bridge

The Main Bridge for the Hermes class ship is small and compact. In the middle is the Captain's chair. Behind him is a tactical display screen, which shows the Hermes in relation to other objects. In front of him is the pilot, and along the front wall are windows with a holographic display web installed in the struts, to zoom in on far away objects or focus on certain visuals. To his left is the communications station and to his right, operations.

Sensor Suite

Unique to the Hermes class ship, the Sensor Suite is manned by 9 sensor specialists ranked Lieutenant or above. It has a central table around which the specialists sit, and there are consoles lining the wall. All of the masses of sensor information compiled by the vessel is processed and analysed in this room, with the pertinent pieces of information travelling back to a command ship via a permanent communications uplink.
